The night falls
and I can already smell the night shift:
headlights through the glass library,
headlights here in the diner
turn to lit refineries.
It is the same murky atmosphere
between people who live together
when something’s not right.
I keep looking
obsessively at
another man’s conversation-gleaming eyes.
