I had watched The Snake Pit many times,
so I knew how to act and what to say
to fool the psychiatrists:
a few years in an institution
was better than life in prison

And it was only a few years
before I was miraculously ‘cured’

I lived sixty years after being released
and outlived Waitkus by forty years,
so I did succeed in killing him after all,
though it took longer than I had originally planned
