Snow Day New Day

Richard K. Williams

This morning the steel grey sky hangs low
over the newly decorated landscape.

The view from my window startling
It always is after the first snow fall.

I stare transfixed by the change, its beauty
more dramatic than any other season.

Spring, summer, autumn arrive in stages
winter and snow descend rapidly upon us

like a curtain at the end of a wonderful play
where we sit frozen in our seats amazed

But it will not last, soon we desire action
The initial wonder wears off tedium sets in

We are impelled to wait months before
the curtain call, called spring appears.

It approaches slowly, so slowly
like a bride walking down the aisle.

When it arrives we rejoice
because life is reborn.
