No Skin in the Game

Andrew Miller

Danielle became concerned about the coronavirus after reading that January 26th article in the LA Times. When she learned that the disease was ‘pneumonia-like’ and saw the picture of people in China wearing masks, she knew this was going to be a big deal. She ignored the U.S. experts who said an infection wouldn’t be much different from the common cold and there was nothing to worry about.
The next day Danielle instituted a new business plan. Before one of her clients scheduled an appointment, they had to get tested. And even if they were negative, they had to have their temperature taken before they entered. Once inside, they had to take their clothes off, stuff them in a plastic bag and jump in the shower.
Then Danielle read about the mortality predictions and how easily the virus spreads.
Now when a client comes out of the shower, they put on a special suit, kind of like pajamas kids wear, complete with feet they pad around on. Also gloves, an N95 mask, and a full-surround hoody with clear plastic eyeholes. She wears a similar suit and says it’s not that uncomfortable. It feels like another layer of skin and is almost transparent. Once her client is suited up, Danielle helps them put on a Personal Protective Device.
She says that anyone who doesn’t like this new protocol can take their business elsewhere. Not only is she protecting herself, but she’s helping to flatten the curve. She admits wearing these suits takes getting used to—but they’re safer than nothing.
