Bare knuckles rattle my door.
A voice in the name of freedom
demands an answer,
warns that locked doors
are against the law.

Now on the inside of any keyhole
is a shadow made of smoke
swirling around a living room
where the power is always off.
The King’s castle is in ruins,
an unlocked dungeon from which
there is no escape, but I obey
and open wider than a peephole
to a world where fire is the only light.
