Gladiator

James Ware

The gates have risen
And the battle begins
The gladiator is brought back to life
Released from his cage as a slave
To his kingdom and domain
He sees his enemy all around
And the onlookers and patrons
Placing bets upon his life or death
In the games he does not balk or quiver
Neither noble or justice
For where his blade does land
Focused on survival
But retaining humane mercy
Even with crowd’s demand for blood
Not lost in the moment
For no beast stands
Only the man in the arena
Beating back striking foes
No whimper or pleas for surrender
The coming of the Angel of Death
The only cause for him to bend the knee
And to relinquish his sword
But with no darken wings in sight
He continues his valiant fight
As drunken hecklers sing a chant
And vicious opposition at sword’s length
The gladiator is ready
He is ready for the Hell that has been unleashed
And riches he is granted in victory
Or the Heavens he meets in defeat
I am Gladiator, man of the sword
