Kings

James Ware

What you see before you
Are the last Great Kings of Earth
Constructed around us
Are grand castles
Leaving our ancestor’s
Wooden huts
Our fields were fertile
Our people prospered
We drank the wines
And feasted on the meat
Of our labors
As we foolishly believed
Or dared to hope
That the summer days
With shinning Sun
And calming breeze
Night skies full of light
Would never cease to be
We paraded and celebrated
But soon the cracks did show
Wrong doings and injustice
Brought forth anger
Too few competent heads
And even less calm ones
Left us to our will
We as our kind do
Sought sanctuary and comfort
From lying faces
With the widest grin
There is no one to blame
But the average man
With his golden crown
And robes of purple
For his fortune
Not of his neighbor
Or his children
Brought the end of this age
That his ancestors fought
For him to have
Soon this era will be in memory
Our fruits will turn sour
Our rivers and wells will turn poison
Our faces marked with dirt and blood
But for the moment
Let the games begin
If our cities are to fall
Let us be in a drunken stupor
