you wanted a voiceless bird
who would only sing for you,
a woman child never heard
only seen for her beauty;

but i am no one’s song bird—

i am the harpy that will tear you
to ribbons for all the harm
you’ve caused women,

i am the damphyr that will
drink of every ruby of your blood;

i am the banshee screaming until you can no longer hear—

will become the swamp beast from your worst
dreams to smother you in the earth
so that your fires will finally be finished

because yours were soulless flames that devoured
a forest fire without an aim,

i am a wild bird;
whose talons and beak are always
ready for war and i will come out the victor

the only spoils will be your death.
