Nothing At All

Drew Nacht

I Charles Mansoned my last poem,
killed and demonized it-
sometimes it’s the easiest thing to do.
Hands still bloody something caught my attention
behind that door staring straight ahead.
I was not familiar with that sound.
It’s unusual to get distracted from committing a massacre
as massacres are all about delicious focus
so I had no choice but to drop the bloody, pulseless poem
and sprint toward that door
hoping to get to that noise as soon as possible.
I was scared though-
hand on the doorknob to open the door I was scared,
and I liked it.
And then I walked away before opening that door.
I wanted to bottle that frightened feeling, is all.
What could possibly be behind that door
that would live up to all that feeling?
Nothing as far as I was concerned,
nothing at all.
