I know you expected more from me
        much more
but today the moment came
        when I could not go on

your expectations, your requests
        and subtle demands
have become so all-consuming
        that I have lost my senses

without considering the price
        I’ve become your appendage
and now, I miss the person, the mind
        that once was me

I should not have let you think
        this is what I am all about.
my existence now means more to me
        than simply serving you

though I love you—and your dreams
        the time has come
to remember the path I call my own
        lest I should always wonder

I know you expected more from me
        much more
but one day—long ago—
        so did I
