calendars try
to convince us of summer,
though through streets
the wind writhes,
slimy as wriggling
fish.

around the corner
there’s sunlight, always
around the corner.

and you walk
to reach it;
clouds collapse
like clumsy hands
and playing cards,
knocking them off a table
onto a kitchen-tile
floor, toward the end
of a tedious
1am drinking game,

gone long on
since the evening
of a late
and soggy night.
