Incapable Of Breathing

Travis Green

I was drowning in the dark and freezing seas,
below zero degrees, incapable of breathing,
where blackness surrounded me, the wrecking
wind screaming relentlessly at me as endless
tears fell down my pale and sunken face,
my sad, grey eyes becoming a cloud of confusion,
a denied existence, unwritten, unqualified,
falling in silent, nighttime skies. I was lifeless,
a mere equation fading away in dreadful,
empty depths, desolate, split down the middle,
the icy waters pulling me deeper in despair,
telling me that I would never rise from this
shattered pain. And as I stared around me,
I could see that I was becoming an immeasurable
wave of hopelessness, damaged, drunken, crumbling,
shrunken, suicidal sounds of banging drums tormenting
me as I became a suffocating cell, failed, derailed, and bladed.
