    I risk a moment // in contemplation, considering // that perhaps I’ve transcended my muse // and fallen on another’s lips // Velvetine ghosts skirt past me // as I hold my breath // and a wound I thought I staunched begins to bleed //delicately with new meaning // How can I close my eyes to this? // and affect a passionless gaze // It was that nagging ghost // that inspired each and every saccharine manuscript, but // when I blotted him away, writer’s block came to stay perched on my shoulder--there was nothing more to say, not about love. And my cursed muse, in the shadow where you dwell, I see a fresh face; and now filled half with excitement, half anxiety // as if Poe were flavouring my morning coffee.
