The Line Between

Flying
A memory slips by
So quickly
Like the tinkling of
Spare change
In an empty pocket.

Closing
I woke to a dream
One that had me smiling
I struggle.
One I can no longer
Remember.

It Burns
More work today
In a blistering heat
I get ready
Looking to the sun
How I dread it all.

Higher
Music takes me
To that
Place in time
A place I cannot reach
But float there anyway.

Tide Watching
The cigarette
Hanging on my lip
Has expired
But no matter,
It hangs there still.

Lazing
My woman cries out
in terrible agitation,
“You haven’t done
A fucking thing all day!”
I look over & continue on.

Weeds
My gardens have
Turned to weeds
Weeds that haven’t
Bothered to take
My flowers into consideration.

Staring
I light another
And another
When ends
This exhaustion?
One day it will.

Wanton
It trickles
And pours
That’s how quickly,
How drastic,
Life crashes to the ground

Outside
“Has no one noticed
The pile of dog shit
By the door?”
What nonsense.
It looks quite at home.
