you wanted me to conform
into being a soft, sweet flower
not a wild one with thorns;

but i was difficult and stubborn
and defiant to your will

so, of course, i am the villain
in this tale
because any woman who thinks
for herself is something
terrifying—

you couldn’t handle me as i was
so you tried to mold me
into someone smaller so i would
be easier to control,

i refused to walk that straight
and narrow road of what you said a
woman could be;

instead favoring my own heart and dreams—

don’t regret ever walking away from
the things that don’t appeal to my soul,

i just wish i realized my power and my
magic sooner so i could’ve hexed
you and everyone like you into oblivion sooner.
