Rain Day at the Beach

The sky was low and grey
moisture heavy in the air
thicker than normal; pressing down.

On Folly Beach we all knew
it was merely a matter of time.
When the downpour arrived

it came ahead of media prediction.
Fat heavy drops,
pelting those few on the beach.

On the porch, we sat;
high and dry giggling
at those in bathing suits

holding towels over their heads;
running to escape
the falling water.
