In praise of hate

Richard K. Williams

I’ve heard it said that hate
is a heavy burden to bear

But I don’t think hate
weighs one subatomic particle
more than love

Hate is like a warm woolen blanket
on a hot summer day.
Wrap it around yourself and
roast inside it’s scratchy feverish hatefulness

Hate won’t fade
like an old photograph.
Or slip through your hands
like so many loose grains of sand

Hate allows you to mentally
transform people
into what you think they are.
Rarely being disappointed
when you find out you’re wrong

Best of all, hate allows you
to feel so good
when you finally let it go.
let’s see love do that.
