clouds linger in a fat heavy sky,
rain has come & gone,
flowers stretch,
leaves rattle on brittle limbs,
water pools against broken curbs.

a transistor radio screams out daily updates,
people with it, people dying
faster than the lies sounding
from the White House.

i no longer listen.
i no longer watch.
i no longer hear.

today,
the sky is beautiful,
out past barbed wire,
beyond burned out buildings,
over gravesites in public parks.

trees bend and sway,
dip down toward the earth.
birds sing and cry, trade
stories with those that listen.

tomorrow sits waiting
for a simple kiss or touch
as we gaze upon a sky
etched by an incredulous sun.
