Accountability

Rochelle Lynn Holt

“Do not weep at my grave. I did not die,”
she wrote in eulogy thirty years
before sacrificial passing.

What had come true was Mother’s worst fear:
pinned into group home without sting
where she’d be neglected and left to cry.

Second sister and I are forced to bring
accountability, though we weep, sigh.
Surely, bedsore/wound case is mirror

to other lost families still asking Why?
Blame like buck cannot pass on wing.
Someone is responsible for tears.

Retribution isn’t a fling!
Licensed group homes should provide good care.
That means helping patients walk not fly.*

Walkers disallowed lead some to biers.
Now, we’re not asking for pie in the sky,
but all elderly lives mean something.

“Do not weep at my grave. I did not die,”
she wrote her eulogy thirty years
before sacrificial passing.
