When Mother makes sense, I’m a butterfly,
emerging quickly from her cocoon
as wings flutter to lilting voice.

When she’s drugged, caterpillar twists spoon;
there’s no sweet taste tickles rejoice.
I’m inside Niagara Falls cry.

There’s no boat to row, sail to hoist,
when wind can’t even muster breeze to sigh
for patient eyes ringed like a raccoon.

Who doesn’t know that after life you die
except some petulant souls, boys?
They have buried her alive in dune,

far from her pleas, deafening noise.
But, karmic debts return all too soon.
No redemption for unrepentant lie!

Only children forget days jejune;
they don’t recall cherry trees and blue sky.
Will they pass without pride, poise?
