“Irena keeps charts; shoots straight from hip.”

What about anxiety of mother?

She can’t walk step, let alone mile.
No one helps her move as patient/boarder.
Just one of four, but they crack the whip

to control the “negative” visitors.
“This is home,” one says without guile.
POA says, “There will be no trip!”

to first daughter treats you with style.
Old woman aims for stiff, upper lip,
but really thinks she’ll end in cruel slaughter.

Her last days are ruled with iron grip.
She can’t have an orange, not even quarter.
There’s no empathy all the while.
