Rain slants left with distant lightning, thunder
on Easter Sunday after 5 p.m.
when we return from gathering.

We’re sated from turkey, dressing, ham,
broccoli, green beans, just everything
prepared with love by Lorraine, Scott’s mother.

I recall my call this morning
to prisoner at Funny Face care center.
POA put Mom there on a whim.

Five places in two months: one more blunder,
because he chose to cut rose from stem.
Now, he shares her house with sibling.

Mother’s given pills like M & Ms.
Haldol* knots tongue and speech in ring
doesn’t fit swollen fingers; she can’t stir.

Son says he can’t do anything
about his aching back (bone?) or gestures,
unemotional as spoiled cream.
