Longest relationship I ever had
was Time’s gift with my beloved Mother.
She guided me through brief childhood

where I cradled brothers and sisters;
cooked, cleaned, supervised without should.
In between, I watched westerns with Dad, read.

Days and nights were full; life was good.
I was oblivious to when times were bad.
I was raised independent daughter.

Although Mother has joined Dad, I’m still sad
as I move slowly like warped wood.
I loved wise-woman like no other.

She taught me everything that’s good:
how to write, survive, no matter
lack of confidence, fear, prevalent fads.

She taught me how to care and to share.
She taught me how to subtract and to add.
Warriors don’t wear little red hoods.

Longest relationship I ever had
