Amid Christmas carols on radio
and flickering lights on outdoor pine,
there’s sadness in her heart like stone.

Evil letters send chills up her spine,
especially from siblings full-grown
who are depressed, delusional and slow.

Neither can verbalize on phone
as each swings insults high or throws ball low,
because their lives are tangled in bind.

Jealousy rules as they have never flowed:
hungry for money like dog bones.
Invited to feast, they cannot dine.

They prefer pleasure of moan; grown,
they do not listen and are unkind.
They are always right for only they know.

Conversation focused on malign
is timeless gift they continue bestow;
no light under bushels has shone.
