Lost Memories

You keep busy so as not to go mad:
washing floors, polishing furniture
in between guardian duties

for a changed and immobile mother
whose antique body/face you read as sad
mirror reflects your own dis-ease,

regarding lost memories once were so glad
like a clean and gentle spring breeze
before season of age without cure.

Now, you can’t see forest for trees
whose ancient roots you thought would endure
beyond encroachment of all that man had.

But, nothing is so cruel, nothing pure
when even leaves have been seized
to be crafted for fashion’s latest fad.

Once you fed birds crumbs to appease
their natural hunger in world gone bad.
Only constant pollution is sure

while you try to find space to bury dead.
In mean time, like a ghost you walk moor
in between caregiver duties.
