No Reverence

Rochelle Lynn Holt

Is her agony same as her brother’s?
Did he not expect Mother to die
from unwatched bedsore in group home?

She wonders if he reflects and cries
for impulsive actions fill tome?
He never consulted any other

as though encased in bubble dome.
He did same with Veterans’ Home for Father,
gone in two months after long good-bye.

In her home, caretaker could have smothered
old woman he’d never let roam.
He made an invalid fear and sigh.

Her death is not lovely poem,
rather filled with painful question Why?
But, now, sister can’t ever be keeper.

Both her brothers became sties in eye.
They had no reverence for aging Mother
(with speaker on when daughters phoned).

Is her agony same as her brother’s?
Surely, he expected Mother die
sooner than later in group home.
