Not Even Death

As I awaken to inner purpose,
there’s nothing I fear, not even death
of best friend, beloved mother,

whose warm womb pushed me into world all wet,
screaming against leaving other
realm where I could dive, swim like porpoise.

There is no broken chord, tether,
despite funeral progression, wreaths;
we join with all those dear like Belgian lace,

connected in dreams or voices: Seth;
dimes on street; rabbits; or stranger on bus.
Signs always bind us to other.

I let go of emotions, disgust,
eyes losing thought stroking fur,
content in mystery of cat, pet,

who gives affection with a purr
while I live in the present without fuss,
with only desire to give not get.

As I awaken to inner purpose,
there’s nothing I fear, not even death
of best friend, beloved mother.
