One must focus on present of presence:
those rare moments we spend with loved ones—
Mother, thousands of miles away!

Sooner than we know, the gift is gone;
there’ll be memories, no words to say.
Hopefully, we’ll have mended broken fence.

Or, sky becomes clouds without rays.
If we neglected presence, past present
will leave us disheartened and thus stunned.

If we have sensibility with sense,
we cultivate spirit, not gray,
remembering how we both held the sun.

Once, Mother was active and fey;
now, fragile, she only whispers puns.
I recall when she led circus in tent.

She was Annie Oakley, shooting guns,
also trapeze artist and clowns made sense.
Long ago and yet, she rules day.

One must focus on present of presence:
