Relocation

Rochelle Lynn Holt

We know the spirits of our loves don’t die,
only bodies that have rented space;
but, relocation is still sad.

Our memories can never be erased;
sometimes that’s good & sometimes bad
until finally we give up asking Why?

Many people move, and they’re glad
though they leave family and friends with a sigh;
with photos we can remember face.

If we’re truthful, we realize they’re free
like a young, optimistic grad
who steps into Challenge with fast pace.

Thus, we can’t mourn the past we had
as we help others pack with grace
even though they’ll be removed from our eyes.

Pattern remains despite faded line:
taste of cheesecake or lemon meringue pie;
absence ought never make us mad!
