while other poets advise rage
against dying light though voice weakly sings.

or believe psychics that death’s entrancing:
merely leaving a shell at border,

returning to other world, advancing
beyond temporal earth wages
where timeless spirit is a cat purr.

Like trapped bird will fly out of cage,
no longer bound to dirt and mortar,
faint rising breath is all that she can bring.

Those left behind sleep with grief, words, or
look for signs in nature like gull’s dipped wing
to remind that proof lives as gauge...

We are connected by spiritual rings
like dreams of friendly ghosts wearing fur
not real but befitting last stage.
