Mental or physical toil can be balm
while other people sleep to forget
woes stir emotional turmoil.

There are those who prefer cat, dog: pet
to soothe spirit when blood boils
while multitude invoke prayer to calm.

Many use firewater as foil
while nicotine addicts smoke their Napalm,
and gamblers may choose both when they bet.

Lovers drown in each other’s flesh as psalm;
arsonists prefer burning oil.
True trapeze artists shun safety net.

What’s dangerous is snake uncoiled.
Anything relieves pain for minute,
including yoga whose mantra is Ohm!

But, only sure cure to life is death—
natural or unnatural to some,
dependent on what you’re loyal to...
