Mother, will-o’-the-wisp, still can feel pea
beneath her bones under thick mattress,
but she can’t express her desires.

Like me, she believes silence is best,
repressing pain, avoiding ire.
As hard worker, she eschews jealousy.

Some have left her to die on pyre;
but, they’ve forgotten strength of waves on sea.
She is the master of stress, duress.

They abandon her early through envy.
They are promise-breakers, liars
like teens desecrate home to make less.

Will they set possessions on fire,
leaving her only one burial dress?
For group home or hospice, she’s not ready.

They plan to outwit and second-guess:
those who have no belief in destiny.
They’re unaware they crossed wrong wires.
