Fog cloaks the Gulf like contemplative mind
as I wander shore strewn with seaweed,
body heavy like rooted stones

while I ponder our strange family breed:
camaraderie hard as scones.
One would think a dying mother might bind

distant siblings like blood and bones;
but, brothers, estranged sister, are unkind.
Only two women care about need.

They are concerned about the ancient pine,
invalid in house bed, alone;
branches are broken: no cones, no seed.

In last weeks, best has not been done
for parent, weaker than willow reed.
Caretaker is oblivious of signs.
