I understand addiction but not lack:
respect for other human beings,
which is, no doubt, contradiction.

If one cares for parent(s), concern brings
most reverent consideration
beyond merely stroking fur on cat’s back.

But, if Self can’t balance ration
for fire, water, wind tunnels through earth’s crack,
maybe mortals become blind, seeing

only small striped pores like prisoners off track
believe in their condemnation.
If there aren’t any angels with wings,

we must all lift depressed nations.
Yet, what if most of us can’t dance, sing,
struggling to run race in potato sack?

When do we learn life’s more than a fling,
wrongfully pinning butterflies with tacks?
Who will redefine conviction?
