Each day you try to live in the moment
until night before an adventure
when you’re restless as a rabbit.

You pray flight and trip will be secure,
that old Mother relishes it;
at 82, this is her last event.

You want Chicago to be hit
where childhood and half her lifetime were spent
before desert changed to insecure.

You hope it’s everything intended, meant,
to uplift and assuage spirit,
something akin to a two week cure

for one who’s prone to sleep or sit.
You and boyfriend will offer the tour.
You pray two Tabbies don’t cause her to vent.

She’ll see her parents’ gravestones, for sure;
and, also downtown, so reinvented.
Keating house will look like doll kit.

But, each day you try to live in moment
until night before the adventure
though you’re restless as a rabbit.
