Vision of Lilac Bushes

Rochelle Lynn Holt

At heart of the matter was their Mother,
who meant something different to each child
like vision of lilac bushes.

First son was done with walking his miles.
When conditions were right, he pushed
weak woman into group home without tear.

Second son still led cattle rush
from Oregon to move in with brother.
No love lost, he was filled with revile.

Youngest sister bombarded then scattered.
Nothing to say was her excuse!
She separated early like isle.

Though second sister wasn’t flush,
she was articulate, helpful, mild.
She visited and let nothing bother

despite POA’s betrayal, guile.
Firstborn daughter flew often to Mother
she revered like ocean waves hush.

At heart of the matter was their Mother,
who meant something different to each child,
like vision of lilac bushes.
