You know your mother will one day pass
although she’s like cat with nine lives;
still, you can’t help but ponder dreadful day.

At 82, she doesn’t thrive;
but, she still has opinions and sass.
To see her smile is like a day in May.

As first generation Pole with class,
she’s been true mentor in a million ways;
imagining her gone gives you hives.

You won’t be consoled despite those who pray.
Besides, you’re still frightened of dives
although you hope her end will come fast.

If she was the fork, you were knife;
if you could, you’d have her spread stay;
albeit, you know, ashes to ash.

She’ll always be flowers in bloom, sun rays,
though you barely recall her as lass;
she was woman/artist with drive.

You know your mother will one day pass,
yet she seems like cat with nine lives:
still, you can’t help but ponder dreadful day.
