Welcome to the Cut

A.J. Huffman

Crawling into the open
window of your mind,
I scrape my knees.
Now we are both bloodied
and trapped In the emptiest
darkness. Alive?
I am unsure of that possibility,
and I do not like the film
of fear it leaves in my mouth.
I spit it out, watch it bounce
backwards.
If it sticks
we will know
at least one of us still has a chance
to breathe again.
