Even Though I Didn’t See It

I’ve been walking around here
in this mobile home park
and I was told that for days
the flag at the base of the park here
was at half mast
for my mother’s death

of course, once they told me
the flag was back up

I thought the flag should only be
lowered like that
for someone in the military
or some high-ranking government official
but

but at least they did that for my mother
even though it was only for days
and even though I didn’t see it
