Fit the Bill

after my grandmother died
I got some of her jewelry
trinkets, really
not even silver
silver toned
& I kept these few trinkets
so I’d have something to remember her by

and right after I found out
my grandmother died
my step-nephew made fun of me
saying I dated people
from every branch of the military service
but they were wrong

I just wanted to find someone stable
and no one fit the bill
