It’s Only The Tip

Janet Kuypers, November 14, 1998

there are too many things that I want to say,
but after all these years I’ve forgotten how to speak

I’ve wanted to tell you how I feel
but I’ve always been afraid to do that
and I’ve always been afraid of looking like a fool

looking like a fool? well, I mean,
having ideas that others don’t agree with

you know what I mean

well, maybe you don’t, but now you see
why I haven’t been able to tell you everything
and now I’m afraid that it’s too late
too late for me
and now I’m going to have to live with what I know
all alone

I’ll have no one to share that knowledge with

I want someone to share that knowledge with me
I want someone to spend their life with me

I know I should have wanted that before
but I’m telling you, at least I’m trying to tell you now

and I’m still afraid to tell all this to you
and this is only the tip of the ice berg

it’s only the tip
