i wish no one had to carry
what i have to,
but i know some people
have endured worse;
i hate that #metoo is a trending
hashtag
that i’ve had to use, too;
because i couldn’t hide forever
to pretend the past doesn’t exist
is worse than digging deep into these scars
to unravel old wounds and heal—
don’t know why
the force of your lips against mine
hurts me still
or why i even think of you,
at all,
when i would much rather just live my life
than spend another eternity in that moment;
some of us just can’t snap out of it
though we’d like to
sometimes some things are just
too heavy.
