no one’s mentioned
your name
recently,
and i hope they continue
that pattern;
because the memories aren’t good
it feels better to put them
on the back burner
just a pity
they don’t burn—
i feel betrayed when people
try to say you’re a good man
have to talk myself down
tell me they don’t know what i know,
and i don’t want to explain
what happened when i was but a kid;
especially since it didn’t happen
they would just say i was lucky but i don’t
feel lucky, at all.
