Never Again

Maxwell Baumbach

when he tried to walk
at seven months
he planted
on his face
& never dared it again
not for the rest
of his life
even as he grew old
in his stubborn nature
he refused to try it
because of what happened
the first time

they say
insanity
is trying the same thing
over & over
expecting
different results;

I say
insanity
is trying once
& quitting
