And After My Wheels

Mark Fleury

And after my wheels
Fell off, you became the captain
Of my ship, the place

Where space’s time, spirit’s Mother,

Angel’s demon, Christs.
Mind’s Buddha and Sound’s

Light, illuminated
From within, is the
Heart of Mary’s breath. Embraced.

That’s what I mean by flame,
Yet there’s no cure for its
Climb and leaps up toward escape
From center, in met by what
Fills it from the back
Of the edgeless atom, fronted
By appearance.

Lightning, and the place between
What’s shown - Cross - and sound,
Doesn’t let darkness out
Of its grumbling containment.
That’s light. And as hollow
As that: Sunday’s suburban sprawl,
Can’t escape the end of the day,
Just as cancer and the atom bomb
Multiply from what’s not even

One. Air is imagined, as for
A thunderstorm’s electric waves
Of blue, cracked, out’s in.
