And the Energy

Mark Fleury

And the energy
Of the ghost ho(a)rse
Reached the edges of the lake
As I woke from the thought of wakefulness,
The last gray atomic dusting wiped away
From the light that shone through
The corridor of mirrors
In my pants,

To find myself in a theory of all
Of the rolling green hills I’d traveled over
To touch your soul. And all I could get to
Was in me. I mean I earned my wings
By becoming you.

And also the flesh of fences
Around who had to die,
An Angel at the gate, breathing

Liquid soul, full of its own shadows,
Quietly cast across these pages.
And the child, My Father, had grown younger
Over time, demon to form, last name to first.
Until none of the wings are untouched.

Having stood in a hall, unable to move
For fear of flames in veins,
The CHILD/ANGEL, like astral mind,
Couldn’t get to, couldn’t hold
The diamond-throated oneness
That separates us.

And for all the love I was under,
Trying to keep the bottom
Of the line in me: God
Has the base of my spine.
I am holding nothing. Spelled.
