Entering an Echo

Mark Fleury

Entering an echo
Of a voice,

Microphoned
So temptation’s dance

Can hear me, my sight wheeled
Behind through a pit of flames
From the sun, whose light
Reflects now through my glasses.

In between, open moon. On the other side

Of the windows, dishes are
Being washed, plates cleaned of earth,

Lensed room full of steam from
The machine that purifies mirrors.

Both sides want to wheel
West to where meals are of
Beauty itself, body-spinning
Address into the sunrise,
And where naked place has been
Consumed, not even reflection

Remains. Perhaps just an echo
Of a heartbeat,

Drumming always
Eastward, toward a home.
