Free of Forms Named Rocks

Mark Fleury

Free of forms named rocks
All’s taken in as I sit on your ground

I give to you as all numbers.
Only space is in different planets;
Soul, you’re in me

Like plate tectonics move mountains.

I felt that if I could label
The boundaries of dawn
Changing into Spirit, then where I am

Would include the mermaid
On a boulder, transformed
From Atlantic coast

Into rain-streaked streets.

And talk like headlights
About missing the eyes
Of a fast food funeral
Could then be limited
To defending wings
Of humiliation. Behind my own back.

Else I’d circle my own amusement park
Loneliness. Join the crowd ‘round
TV flag as though I could lick

My own chakra, myself breath, speech and heart.

Saved serpent because my root,
Hidden from view, and my name too,
Belong to and are in you.

That’s why I wanted, having less
Than a body, to call music

As though it was a friend
Who had abandoned me at a party.
