That’s What Gets Me

Mark Fleury

That’s what gets me
About sitting at a picnic table,
In a parking lot,

Listening to the Solar Ship leave
Through the open moon,

Rock and roll, the planet Earth,

In where northward is always
Up. Stoned. From the perspective
Of place, even if an audience

Member’s back is turned to
Eternity, the heart and mind form
(Wing) the Cross, to cleanse

Seeing through waves, even if
Only the dance of chattering
Teeth from Moon Head on stage,
And to get to the water.

Moon’s soul means voice, full,
Has charmed the essence of
Snake. Else it’s, from stage,

“Get these monster truck
Wheels out of my mouth!”
Smile compromised. The trance dance
Is moving the shadowed,
Sunglassed mask into the

Accident, described from Light,
Table for stage and dancer,

Witnessed. Steaming from flash
Of vehicles that were graves.

Portal has moved up into the head.

The debris, the gnashing of teeth,
The mess of gnarled metal,

Wind itself, saved.
