“Don’t Tread On Me”

“Don’t tread on me,”
Was the doormat’s
Message

To the earthy dogs of spring,

The snow eaters,
Worshipped by Angels.

Who lived there planted
Hours of summer

In March soil, deep, under multiple,

Drying surfaces of the clay pots

On the tin-foiled sun.
That flare seemed to open

The top glare of an electric
Sentence. Spewing flames of sound
From the balcony

To the street. Singed petals landed
On the solar-paneled heads
Of working families, at the low

Tides of their comforting
Time together. To be able to walk

To where was under sea

Makes the body feel surrounded
By the end of time.
